Sundays on the Farm

Flora Farms is a pretty magical place. Nestled in the foothills of the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains in San Jose del Cabo, Flora Farms is a fully functioning farm, restaurant, bar, event space– and they even have their own culinary cottages and shops. It wasn't always as striking as it is today, but it has always kept to its mission of sustainability and general "down to earth" practices (for example, they still largely farm by hand and use certain plants and natural spice mixtures to attract the good bugs, and keep out the bad).

While everyday is special on the farm, I think Sundays are the best. For one– brunch. I mean, come on! I live to brunch. Second, but probably most important, DONUTS!!!

During the "high season" months (generally November-June) every Sunday Flora Farms hosts a Donut bar. Seriously. They are so fresh and delicious– I always seem to find an excuse to be "around" Flora Farms on Sunday.

The bad news is May will be the last month of donuts for this season, but the good news is you still have today AND next Sunday to get them!! Seriously, you don't want to miss out on this.

But don't worry– if you miss out on the donuts for this season, you'll still have the bloody mary bar– aka the Pelo de Perro bar. Perfect cure for a hangover, or even to get the party started. It is basically a drink and an appetizer– they come with a ton of accoutrement. Be sure to click through the slideshow below to see what I mean.

What I love about coming to Flora's is I know everything is super fresh and super local. From their veggies to their bread to their meat– everything comes from their farm (the animals are on a separate, larger farm a few miles away). Luckily for everyone in Baja, Flora's sells their bread and veggies to the public at their market on the farm and they have two other market locations– one in downtown Cabo and the other in the art district of San Jose.

Click on some of the photos above to learn more about Flora Farms' sustainable practices and impressive efforts to bring us the richest produce and products around.

I never feel quite as bad as grabbing a few donuts to go as long as I also have a nice basket of fresh vegetables too.

Flora Farms is open for Sunday brunch from 10am-2:30pm (reservations highly recommended, but if you're just coming for donuts not necessary. Be there by about 12 or 1 because they can sell out). They close for dinner Sunday and all day Monday, but open again Tuesday-Saturday for Breakfast from 9-11am, Lunch 11am-2:30pm, and Dinner from 6-9:30pm.

Special thanks to Lindsay Santini at Santini Pinheiro Photography for the photos of me and my one true love, donuts.
